The Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles will butt heads for the third time this season when the NFC East rivals tangle at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, January 26, 2025 with a trip to the Super Bowl at stake. The Redskins (14-5) stunned the Detroit Lions to advance to the NFC Championship for the first time since 1991, while the Eagles (16-3) survived a late scare from the Los Angeles Rams.

Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Odds

Philadelphia opened as a 5.5-point home favorite over Washington in a highly anticipated rubber match, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. Based on moneyline odds, the Eagles at -250 (1.4) odds are the more likely winners and have an implied win probability of 71.4%, while the Commanders at +200 (3.0) odds have a 33.3% chance to win this game.

Prediction: Washington 33, Philadelphia 31

The Commanders and Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite Jayden Daniels has not lost since November and overcame an early 14-point deficit to snap the Eagles' 10-game winning streak a few days before Christmas.

Daniels’ dual-threat capabilities has gutted Philadelphia’s elite defense for 548 total yards and six touchdowns in two regular season encounters. Washington is peaking at the right time of the year, and a $100 bet on the Commanders to notch the upset at +200 odds would net a total payout of $300. Commanders Offense vs Eagles Defense

Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is the architect of the NFL's seventh-ranked offense. Daniels is the leading rusher for a potent ground attack that ranked third behind Baltimore and Philadelphia. The rookie tallied 891 yards and six scores during the regular season, while Brian Robinson Jr (799-8), Austin Ekeler (367-4), Jeremy McNichols (261-4), and Chris Rodriguez Jr. (173-2) combined for over 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner threw for 3,568 yards and 25 scores this past season, including an epic five touchdown passes against the Eagles' top-ranked pass defense in Week 13. Terry McLaurin is the top pass-catcher with 82 receptions for 1,069 yards and a career-high 13 scoring catches, while tight end Zach Ertz has reeled in 66 passes for 654 yards and seven touchdowns. Other receivers include Olamide Zaccheaus (45-506-3), Dyami Brown (30-308-1), and Luke McCaffrey (24-168).

The Eagles' top-ranked pass defense has limited opposing quarterbacks to a paltry 174 passing yards per outing. Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has a team-best six interceptions for a defensive backfield ranked 12th with 13 picks. Josh Sweat (8), Nolan Smith Jr. (6.5), Milton Williams (5), and Jalen Carter (4.5) have combined for 24 sacks. Linebacker Zack Baun posted 150 tackles in the regular season, including 92 solo takedowns.

The Commanders outscored the Detroit Lions in a monumental upset last weekend, and the same formula could pose problems for a Philadelphia’ defense that was torched for over 400 total yards by the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional round. Washington has won three straight road games and seems destined to knock off the Eagles one more time.

Eagles Offense vs Commanders Defense

Jalen Hurts left the game early with a concussion last month as Washington derailed the Eagles bid for the NFC's top seed. Hurts and Saquon Barkley pace the league's second-ranked rushing attack. Barkley tallied an eye-popping 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns, while Hurts added 630 yards and 14 scores. Kenneth Gainwell chipped in 290 yards and found the end zone once on 75 carries.

A.J. Brown turned in another stellar campaign with 67 receptions for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns, while speedy DeVonta Smith caught 68 balls for 833 yards and eight scores. Tight end Dallas Goedert posted 42 catches for 496 yards and two touchdowns despite missing seven games, and backup Grant Calcaterra finished with 24 catches for 298 yards and one score.

The Commanders' 13th-ranked defense excels in pass coverage but is woeful against the run. Washington's defensive secondary ranked third with 189 passing yards allowed per game. However, Dan Quinn's squad ranks 30th against the run and allows 137 yards weekly to opposing rushing attacks.

Linebacker Bobby Wagner leads the team with 132 tackles, while safety Jeremy Chinn has racked up 107 tackles. Dante Fowler Jr. (10.5) and Frankie Luvu (8) have netted a combined 18.5 sacks, and rookie cornerback Mike Sainristil led the squad with two interceptions.

The Eagles will go as far as Barkley’s legs take them, but the Commanders have already proven they can win despite opposing running backs piling up big yardage. Hurts and his talented stable of pass-catchers will need more than a few big plays to keep up with Washington and its dynamic rookie playmaker.

Washington Commanders News & Injuries

Right guard Sam Cosmi tore his right ACL in Saturday's divisional round win over Detroit and will miss the rest of the postseason. Cosmi has started every game this season and will need surgery to repair his knee. The Texas native signed a 4-year, $74 million contract before the season to become one of the highest-paid guards in the NFL.

Veteran backup Trent Scott replaced Cosmi against the Lions, and Michael Deiter is another option when Washington squares off against Philadelphia in the NFC Championship on Sunday.

Wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus left the game in the first half with a groin injury. Although he was questionable to return, Zaccheaus returned to the game in the second half but finished with no receptions on two targets.

Philadelphia Eagles News & Injuries

Hurts, who missed the last two weeks of the regular season with a concussion, hurt his knee in the second half of the Eagles win over the Rams. Hurts finished the game with a knee brace and told reporters after the game that he expects to play next week.

Talented rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell was knocked out of the game Sunday with a shoulder injury. However, early reports indicate that Mitchell did not suffer a major injury and should be ready to go this weekend against Washington. Mitchell has played 97% of the Eagles’ snaps this season and ranked 3rd among NFL cornerbacks with 16 forced incompletions.
